My research aims to better understand the effects of climate change on coastal processes. Much of my work relies on numerical models to project changes in wave conditions, erosion patterns, and the extent and frequency of flooding along the California and Arctic Alaska coasts. Before joining the USGS, I consulted as a hazardous waste and ocean engineer and led the development of a coastal-zone-management plan overseas.
