Most of my research focuses on tiny ocean-dwelling creatures called forams. Because these organisms prefer to live in very specific environments, their location on the seafloor can offer clues about how ocean currents transport material. I also study the chemistry of their shells, which can tell us whether the water in which they grew was cold or warm, and how it changed over time. I engage in many outreach and educational activities highlighting the USGS and the Monterey Bay Research Institute.
